The Job Talker

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on September 8, 2010 by Pat DiCaprio

This weekend I had the pleasure of taking the family to a local water park and to the NY Renaissance Faire (don’t knock it until you have tried it). In both places we were confronted by that most annoying of human waste, the Job Talker. Yes, even on line in their bathing suits with their big white beer-bellies covering their waistbands they still have the temerity to talk loudly about just how important they are, regaling total strangers with their Awards For Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence. Bad parenting causes kids to be diagnosed with disorders?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 19, 2010 by Pat DiCaprio

This weekend my brother-in-law told me about the psychological diagnosis of ODD or Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Naturally I presumed he was joking but sure enough he was serious. It is when children don’t do what they are told.

One might use this diagnosis as the butt of a joke and if you do more power to you. People allow Psychiatry as a practice to invent a bullshit disorder or six in order to make themselves feel better about being unfit parents. And if there is one thing this blog is about it is destroying the myths and bullshit that we use to make ourselves feel better about being failures at the expense of others. Continue reading

Get Your Children Vaccinated. Please?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 6, 2010 by Pat DiCaprio

Are you willing to put your child’s health at risk because of your own ignorance of science? When asked this way, of course you will say “no!” But what if I asked “is it safe to have you children vaccinated?” How many people say “no” then? Far too many and it is a shame. These anti-vaccination stalwarts, led by the vacuous Jenny McCarthy, are letting ignorance and hysteria put their children at risk. And, unbelievably, one in four people believe this tripe. Have Aliens Visited the Earth

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 28, 2010 by Pat DiCaprio

Roswell. Area 51. Crop Circles. Cattle mutilations. The cast of Jersey Shore. We are fascinated with the idea that aliens have visited the earth. One-third of Americans believe we have been visited by aliens. One-third! Yes, there are that many stupid people out there. But rest assured the idea of alien visitation is pure bullshit.

Recently there was a story about a mysterious light in China that many believed was a visitation of aliens. We all have heard these stories and many believe them, even some people that believe they are of above-average intelligence. Believing that aliens have visited the earth is ridiculous. Golf Cheaters

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , on June 28, 2010 by Pat DiCaprio

Why do people cheat at golf? One would think that if you are just a “weekend” golfer there would be no reason to cheat. You are not playing for anything and, in theory, are only cheating yourself.

But as we often discuss on this blog, the reason why people cheat is that they want to steal self-esteem from others. It is to make themselves feel better about themselves by making you feel a little worse, as if it is a zero-sum game.

Now if you are a player who is merely learning or are a beginner then feel free to cheat a bit, if it means moving your ball to a better lie or something. I have no problem with that. But what I object to are those who have the gall to cheat and then brag about their score. By bragging to me they are saying essentially that they are better than you. And as bad as that is, at least if you actually accomplished what you are bragging about it can be forgiven. But when you did it by knowingly cheating then you end up as my target here. Jesus. On Toast?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 21, 2010 by Pat DiCaprio

What do toast, fingerprints, trees and wall stains have in common? They are all places where morons claim to have seen Jesus Christ. Just this week some kid in Arizona claimed that Jesus Christ showed up in his fingerprint.

Video Games Make Kids Violent? Seriously?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 13, 2010 by Pat DiCaprio

If you have Wii Sports let me ask you a question: do you think that playing the golf game will make you a better golfer? Will it make you more inclined to play the real game? Do you have trouble telling whether you are playing Wii golf or real golf?

Of course these are silly questions. And yet the obvious logical flaw behind the above stupid questions is ignored when it comes to the topic of violence in video games and movies.

It should be obvious to anyone with working gray matter that playing a video game or watching a movie does not turn a normal person into a psychopath or a person that is more inclined to react with violence. Well, at least it should be. But certain factions, mostly on the political right but a few on the left, believe that movies, rap lyrics, video games and other forms of entertainment do exactly that; they take normal, rosy-cheeked ten-year-old boys and girls and turn them into the next teenagers to pull off a Columbine-style massacre.
